Construction is one of the most challenging occupations in the world, incurring more occupational fatalities than any other sector. The fatal occupational injury rate among construction workers is nearly three times that for all workers. Falls are one of the most common causes of fatal and non-fatal injuries among construction workers. Proper safety equipment such as harnesses and guardrails and procedures such as securing ladders and inspecting scaffolding can curtail the risk of occupational injuries in the construction industry.
Occupational safety and health (OSH) can be important for moral, legal, and financial reasons. All organizations have a duty of care to ensure that employees and any other person who may be affected by the companies undertaking remain safe at all times. Moral obligations would involve the protection of employee’s lives and health. Legal reasons for OSH practices relate to the preventative, punitive and compensatory effects of laws that protect worker’s safety and health. OSH can also reduce employee injury and illness related costs, including medical care, sick leave and disability benefit costs.
Occupational health and safety management system operates on the basis of policy, planning, implementation and operation, checking and corrective action, management review, and continual improvement.
In order to ensure safety and health of worker following practices be put in place.

- Ensure that only trained supervisor is deployed on site.
- Ensure that all safety tools& gears are available in sufficient numbers
- Ensure that tools are periodically tested and stamped.
- Ensure that casual workers and workers of other vendors deployed onsiteare properly briefed about the hazard and safety precautions.
- Co-ordinate with client for work permit and escalation in case ofnon compliance.
- Periodic check on site for compliance by supervisor and workers.

- Do's
- Put warning sign & barricade around pit and material. In case of RTP/RTT, barricade the edges of rooftop.
- Display place of First aid box and check the availability of medicine, expiry date, bandage, scissor, knife. etc
- Display emergency contact no. (Medical, police, fire and office)
- Put on boot, helmet and safety gloves before start of work.
- Remove loose clothings.
- Check the proper working condition of tool andmachinery.
- Electrical work/OFC WORK
- Put on boot, helmet and safety gloves before start of work.
- Isolate the electrical circuit with due permission fromclient.
- Inform the client before re-energizing the circuit
- Tower work
- Check that no energized power line is near tower
- Put warning sign & barricade around tower and material
- Check safety harness.
- Put on boot, helmet, safety gloves and harness beforestart of work.
- Check the ladder firmness before climbing on it.
- Nothing should be carried in hand while climbing theladder
- All tools should be carried in tool kit only.
- Don'ts
- Do not report for duty if you are sick.
- Do not consume alcohol before or during work.
- Do not keep mobile phone/any electrical/electronic gadget whileon hazards work which may cause distraction.
- Do not report for duty if you are on sedative or heavymedication.
- Do not allow any one near the work who are not authorized tobe there.
- Do not smoke while on work
- Do not throw sigarette butts or match stick without properly extinguishing, it may cause fire
- Do no drop or through any material to/fromtower.
- Do not jump from any height.
- Do not lift heavy material unaided.
